The 9E gas turbine rotor, the first one being broke up and repaired, successfully started up in one time |

The #1 9E GT unit, processed by Shenzhen Nanshan Power Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as "NSRD" or "the Company"), runs with a high vibration. To ensure the safety, NSRD decided to send the rotor out for repair. After a formal tender, Nanguang won the bid and signed the first domestic contract on repairs of 9E contract with powerful support from GE. Nanguang rushed out two rotor skids within the shortest period. The rotor, after being separated into turbine segment and compressor segment on site, was packaged and delivered to GE Keppel Services Center in Singapore at the end of 2005.
After the repairs, GE and NSRD held different views on the problem whether the rotor should be sent back in the form of unity or separated ones (compressor and turbine).
NSRD thought there was no experience for reference as this is the first 9E rotor that was broken up and sent out for repair. In order to make sure the rehabilitated rotor can reach GE’ s vibration standards, the turbine rotor and compressor rotor should be connected well in GE’s service workshop and then shipped to NSRD site for re-installation. However, in GE’s view, this will increase lifting coast and shipping difficulty, no matter who might bear the additional cost. GE believed their technology would guarantee the accuracy of on-site connection, having the same effect as done the work in the service workshop. Besides, GE promised to send TA for the site guidance. In the end, the company accepted the opinions from GE Keppel.
Reaching to NSRD site on May 20 of that year, two rotors were connected together within only 2 days and re-installed in 12 days under the guidance of GE’s TA. On June 3 the same year, they were successfully synchronized in one time, and the vibration data in operation fully met GE’s requirements. The GT unit started up from zero speed, through the first critical, second critical, full speed with no-load, full load in raising speed process, down to zero load, then from zero load into the second critical and the first critical in speed down process, until stop. The highest vibration value in the whole starting up and stopping process is only 3 mm/s. After the 2-month running test, the vibration is quite stable. NSRD has been very satisfied with operation results after the rotor was broken up and re-installed. So far China''''s first 9E rotor exported to breakup and repair project has been successfully completed, which accumulated for us the rich experience in continually carrying on this kind service.
